Basics: At Home Disaster Kit
Creating a disaster supply kit is the simplest way to ensure that you and your family have access to the basic necessities of life during and after a disaster. Depending on the type of disaster, emergency response personnel may not be able to reach you for three or more days. Prepare to survive on your own by assembling a kit that contains the following:
- Water (One gallon/person/day)
- Non-Perishable Food (Protein bars, dried fruit, canned food)
- Battery Powered Radio/NOAA Weather Radio
- First Aid Kit
- Utility Tool (Swiss Army Knife, Leatherman)
- Emergency Whistle (To signal for help)
- Dust Mask (One/person)
- Matches/Lighter
- Plastic Garbage Bags
- Duct Tape
- Flashlight
- Emergency Blanket/Sleeping Bag (One/person)
- Moist Towelettes
- Extra Batteries
- Special Items (Pet food, mediciations, change of clothes, copies of vital documents, infant formula/diapers, cash, spare keys, can opener, activities for children)
Go Kit
Some types of disasters may require you to leave your home quickly. It's a good idea to keep a smaller, portable kit in an easily accessible location. Your "Go Kit" should include:

- Bottled Water
- Change of Clothes (One/person/day)
- Medications (Including prescription glasses/contact lenses)
- Copies of Vital Documents
- Cash/Traveler's Checks
- Spare Keys (Include cars, safes, deposit boxes)
- Local Road Maps
- Utility Tool (Swiss Army Knife, Leatherman)
- Pet Needs (Food, collar, leash, medication)
- Children's Activities
